1.Market Research: The Foundation You Can’t Afford to Skip

Let me tell you something I learned the hard way…
You can have the best product, the slickest website, and a killer ad budget — but if you don’t understand your audience, it’s like shouting into the wind.
When I first started my business, I thought I knew my customers. I assumed they were people like me. I designed everything — from the brand voice to product packaging — with that assumption in mind.
Spoiler alert: I was wrong. And it cost me.
What I was missing?
Good, old-fashioned, honest market research.
Let’s talk about what that means, how to do it in today’s fast-paced digital world, and why skipping it is the biggest mistake you can make.

Types of Market Research

1. Surveys

Create a short survey (5–7 questions tops) and send it to your audience via email or social media.
Pro Tip: Use tools like Typeform or Google Forms. Make it mobile-friendly and offer a small incentive — like a discount or free resource.
Sample Questions:
What’s your biggest challenge right now?
What tools/products have you tried (and why didn’t they work)?

2. Social Listening

This is one of my favorite low-key tactics. Spend time in Facebook groups, Reddit threads, Twitter/X chats, and Instagram comments in your niche. Watch what people complain about. What they celebrate. What they ask.

What to look for:
Patterns in questions
Common frustrations

3. Customer Interviews

Set up short 15–20 minute calls with real or potential customers. Ask open-ended questions and listen — don’t pitch.

Ask:
What made you seek a solution?
What were you feeling in that moment?
